Ah but it splits the competition and it does nothing to force designers to re think does it?
So what's happened then because Assy's sometimes find it awkward round cans they have courses designed for them rather than having the boats equipped to deal with what most clubs have to sail round. So you have just a bunch of folk at the same place doing totally different things then? Very fragmented not much to talk about in the bar afterwards then is there? I bet there are different groups dotted about talking about entirely different events at the same venue, not healthy really is it? In a sport already fragmented. I can see now why the big round island events are so attractive.

Graham the Fast fleet were all Asymmeterics and therefore sailed W/L courses, i guess the cut off was around 975 or 1000. The medium fleet were no Assy boats, therefore you could get faster boats racing in the medium fleet i.e. 505 etc. I can understand ow it sounds a bit crazy, but there is method in the madness.
Its not a common set up in the GW series, i think just Grafham and Northampton. Trouble is its hard to make fair racing with a fast Assy boat on a RTC course the same as it is tryng to make a fireball sail W/L. So i think splitting the fleet is the right thing to do, but then i would say that.

Jimbo, i was going so quickly i didn't even see any of the 100's. They must be slow..only joking, but where the hell were they all? It was perfect W/L racing.

Oh, so not that good a test really then, is this common to all those winter sail juice events? How do you decide which to enter, there are slower handicap boats in faster fleets, it all seems a bit weird, I guess there must be a logic just not that apparent to my uneducated eye. You know, I'm not a total beginner to racing and I don't get it, it must be very off putting to the casual observer, how the heck do they expect complete newbies to ever get into this?

10-15kts in Bright Sunshine? Have you any idea how gutted I feel not having made it already and now you torture me with tales of D1's turtling as I would have been leisurely cruising around not even batting an eyelid, save maybe to bust the occasional moon as I went by for the 2nd time.

Don't put yourself down Russy- upwind in a hiker against the rest of that fleet (B14 excluded)... you're never going to feel like you're 'on pace' per say!
The interesting thing was you all beat all the RS100s....

Consistancy pays grumpf, did you never read the tortoise and the hare?
Nick was DSQ for sailing through the gate down wind (sailing instructions outlawed this) and Tim had a big capsize downwind and then retired. I was late for the second start due to a 'Techincal' issue...That being i got in a muck and fuddle and capsized with 30 seconds to go and consiquently turtled.
I didn't sail well at all, my upwind pace was way off, but i did have the odd moment of pace downhill which kept me near them. Just think how f**ked you would of been in your barge!

The different fleets at the GGP do different courses, so you cannot get combined results.

I must say I struggle with the logic of the fleet division in those results, is there an overall list in finishing order/time or were they sailed separately?
Interesting to note Ruscoe beat the pro D1 jocks though . |
