Trouble is with 200 boats coming in at once like at the bloody mary, its a night mare, its also bloody dangerous.  But as Bert says you pays your money and all that.  I am just surprised no one has ever been hurt or that nothing hase been done regarding launching ramps.

From what I can see QM really isn't that big a club as regards turnouts every week. Hard to justify spending a fortune on infrastructure for one event a year...

It is really  a great bit of water ... but, and it is a very big but, you have to get in and out of it ....and that has always been a complete pain.  Plenty of gelcoat chips and scratches and minor slips/falls.  They might not be able to do too much about the car parking but the launching - it needs addressing its simply ....'ORRIBLE.

When they were throwing lottery grants around like confetti did anyone think it might be worth a punt ?  I'll not do the BM in adverse (strong onshore especially) conditions not because of the sailing but because of all the rest of it..... but I suppose if they get large turnouts anyway the incentive might be low.  Bit like the Laser sheeting system ... go on tell us its 'technique' and 'practice'  .... but ...

Ouch the 29er handicap has taken a real beating, even though there are hardly any at Grafham and only 5 IIRC did the warm up last year!

im going to do it this year in the B14, but tempted to get there very very early and be first out, i would rather drift around than be late for the start again due to a load of slower boats rigging up on the finger bit of the launching area.
it may be a good idea to give people colours or somthing and make them launch in waves.

I've extracted the Dinghy SailJuice PYs from the pdf and created a Sailwave PY database.

Not sure what's the score regarding copyright and that stuff so until I hear from sailjuice I won't release it yet, but it would make club racing interestingly different.

Thats a great Idea Olly, segregating the fleet by PY and giving them a launch/on water time would help things, also some more help closer to the shore or on the pits to catch boats coming in.  But to be honest thats a pretty nasty job though.

I'd be at the Grand Prix if I hadn't already planned to spend the 2nd several hundred miles further north recovering from my hogmanany hangover.
