ahh Shearwater SC, possibly the club that boasts the lowest average wind speed of any in the UK.... got to love a long, thin lake surrounded on all sides by tall trees.... perfect though for racing vintage merlins by the looks of things!

The hull shape is basically the same although some tweaks have been made to exploit the large tolerances in plans for home built boats. This is my 1953 boat in original condition.

The newset ones designed this year are free draining with gantry type mast step but still the same narrow hull that Holt designed and sliding seat in those days.

I think the boats were no more seaworthy than they are today but there was an element of self responsibility and less of a blame culture.
