Like you say both pros, but furthermore pros competing in the class they sail professionally against what is overwhelmingly youth competition (and is a recognised youth class).

You seem to be suggesting that it's easy  LOL come join us and see  Tongue

In all seriousness yes, the bulk of the fleet are youth sailors but it's an open adult class nonetheless, and the fact is that the best youth sailors in the fleet tend to go straight onto funding when/if they grow too large for the radial.

It's an unfortunate limiter on the adult participation in the fleet - people assume that because there's lots of youth sailors that it will be easy to get good results.  They turn up, get walloped, and never come back because their ego can't take it.

I would love to sail with my nipper in the future to this level. Truly a magnificent achievement and a show that sailing can be a sport for life!

I agree, a great achievement, but in itself it already carried its reward, this clearly is a hastily thrown together clickbait scheme to benefit who? Not amateur sailors, a couple of magazines more like and there are so many other things that go on, largely unreported.

And as I said before in my rant, lots of unrewarded actions although I'm pleased to read Wing-Wang did get some recognition even if it wasn't from the Sailing community. As to competition stuff, there's a young Snipe sailor, she's won two world titles this year, but she's not part of the RYA meat grinder, so it goes un noticed. Her dad broke the round island record time at Sheppey, the Weymouth Harbour speed record has been broken this season by another amateur, - nothing and these are just things on my limited radar.

So you'll pardon me for not being impressed by more accolades being offered for folk who've already been duly rewarded, isn't that what the Endeavour is for?

I was going to vote for David Hivey, as I met him some years ago when he did a really great RS400 coaching day. Not only a top level sailor, but someone who can communicate what he knows.

But I lost the will to be bothered after some intrusive questions and then the website couldn't link to info about these dinghies of the year I've never seen.

I think Rob will be delighted with his season, but I'm sure he can recognise the unique circumstances which led to the nomination being for her alone.

Pretty sure 3/4 of a typical i14 worlds fleet is non uk.
Uk, Germany, France, USA, Canada and Australia all have strong fleets. Japan still has a few.
Sure it’d be nice to have more nations but it’s a legit international class.

She was nominated for, and won, the BBC East Local Hero award. She was nominated by her Tuesday morning ladies and the full extent of her volunteering came out. It was nice to see someone who had worked so hard get the recognition she deserved.
