conditions. Yesterday the 100 was out for the last part of my d-one sail
and yes Nick Peters was hardly going to let a D-one sail up and down
without rushing out to pace his creation against Luca's.

I have my own thoughts about both boats at this stage of their
development. But they are my thoughts based on my age, size, fitness
and sailing venues and others will have their own views. What is clear is
that these boats and the Halo mean that there is plenty of choice and
excitement for the next few years.

And how did they compare Simon? Was there £4k worth of difference?

I think Simon is trying to say that his opinion on whether there is 4k's worth of difference might not be anybody else's.

Ok fair enough - never seen either in the flesh and I was interested to hear
from Simon how he felt they were when they were together on the water.

Had a fantastic day today.

Got her planing in a Force 2 upwind, fantastic.

Last boat that did that was Tasar.....oh prolly the 700 and skiff, although, not in a Force 2.

The traveller is a wicked tool.

Can't wait for tomorrow....nice breeze.

I have updated the blog for those who are interested.

Yes, I was able to get it to plane upwind when I was sailing the demo boat
last week. It is fun, but it depends what we mean by upwind. You have to
come off the wind by 5-10 degrees and the angle does mean it can't be the
fastest way to the windward mark, The blaze will do the same, but again it is
not quick in racing terms. That said its fun to do. I am not sure whether the
100 can do that as I didn't try it, but it seemed as fast as the d-one on a the
reach.

Seems to do it for me ... and a lot of others !   It is a tactical choice you make in the right conditions.  Wrong choice = wrong result !  Besides you could simply try Halo as it is much more comparable.

Well there is a definate "knack" to it but once you are up on the plane you can nudge it up to windward again, using the traveller is a great control, ease it off to plane and then if you need a quick bit of height pull it on again, handy approaching the windward mark.

So using this technique in yesterdays racing I was planing upwind and keeping close to the pointing ability of the 400.

I have to practice more to keep it more consistent, but it was pretty exciting.
