while the promotion is still going. Without the huge effort that has been thrown at the
skiff in recent years by Ovi's and Devoti it would probably have died. Simon

I would dispute that Simon; MPS is easier to sail than the 700 due to a number of factors not least the smaller sail area; with regards to the performance the Tide Ride results speak for themselves, but we don't want to re-open that old chestnut

With regards to promotional budgets I can assure you that the spend on the MPS has been minimal ... we just have a good vibe and product that does the work.

That's still pretty good and in average comparison to the Musto turnout although this year was 50 boats.

Tim

MPS had 50 boats down from 65 from the previous year but that was because the class main event in 2009 was Garda where we had 74 boats

Rick
I didn't mention financial support, but promotion, not necessarily the same.
Ovi's and Devotti plus class assoc have put a big effort into promoting the
MPS, whilst 700 has been a bit quiet in the last couple of years.

My comments on ease are based on sea sailing where the smaller volume of
the MPS can be tricky and are from two guys in my club who have both
boats.

Don't doubt that both boats are great

What club is that?

I sail on the sea and have no problems ... as do many others ...

PM'd Rick and I think we agreed to differ.

More importantly sailed the D-One today in pretty miserable conditions, but
12-14knt breeze. Prototype so a few rough edges, but nicely made.
Definitely requires some Finn like techniques for tacking and gybing and
that big battened main can bite. Overall, well thought out boat. Felt quick
upwind and I expect a wild ride in a blow - Tim clearly has this nailed. Its a
very different boat to the RS100, which I have sailed and was also out in the
harbour today. Both will find their markets.

Can you (politely/diplomtically) say some more about the differences in
how it is to sail the two boats? I'm not interested in any 'points scoring'
but would like to know what you thought?

Given that it appears to be such an imotive subject, I would suggest that the best thing is to take advantage of the many demo days (for both classes) that will be occurring in the next couple of months.

That is the fairest thing to do, as the RS100 has gone through a few iterations since the last outing.

just my thought

Tim

Looks to me like the ideal solution is to buy both.

Keep the Dustb1n for Light weather and use the 100 in a breeze and waves.

Problem solved.

The internet gives everyone a voice and that whilst liberating also means
that the ill informed can influence the outcome of businesses and that is
a danger and in my opinion wrong. I have now sailed both boats, the
RS100 now twice and the D-One once, all at Hayling and in identical
conditions. Yesterday the 100 was out for the last part of my d-one sail
and yes Nick Peters was hardly going to let a D-one sail up and down
without rushing out to pace his creation against Luca's.

I have my own thoughts about both boats at this stage of their
development. But they are my thoughts based on my age, size, fitness
and sailing venues and others will have their own views. What is clear is
that these boats and the Halo mean that there is plenty of choice and
excitement for the next few years.
