There was certainly a period where the Musto was doing better than the 700, but the 700 is now being built in numbers. Second hand boats are very hard.

Well it amazes me that people still take what perhaps 3-5 people say as a reflection of what goes on in the bigger dinghy market. Its been said a hundred times on here that this is not a cross section of the dinghy world. I would say probably only 10% of my sailing club has even logged onto the Y&Y website let alone the forum. Hardly the next big thing, but like it or not the D1 fleet is growing, boat sales are healthy and its in a damn good place. (from where it was in 2010) Its important to remember what goes on outside of the UK (we are pretty insular on this forum) Steve411 is right the 700 sold 25 boats last year, i am guessing most outside the UK (were they sold to the public who knows) That's a good number of sold boats by anyone's reckoning. The 100 on the other hand is obviously not a dead duck, like i said the early marketing and sales boost is always going to create a period of stagnation, whilst used boats find new owners and used prices find their levels. Once new blood joins the class there will be a second wind, didn't this happen with the 300's?? Its not class bashing its observing what's going on, if we are to use forum traffic as a guideline (its what's driven comments above)then its easy to say the the 100 is a dead duck. hardly anyone posts from the class any more. But in reality we all know that's not true, there are plenty of people sailing them around the country, they are getting mid 20's at national level. Its a niche boat, in what is now a crowded market. Far from Dead, but currently trying to find its real identity again. |

Exactly, but no one can argue the Musto has been more succesful in recent years (if nationals tables are to be the barometer) I believe that dinghy classes go in cycles of popularity. i seem to remember contenders having a quite spell a few years ago, Phantoms are currently having a rocky period as i guess Finns did a few years ago. If i had time i would look at it further, but i haven't so i guess it would just be a gut feeling and observation from my time travelling round different sailing clubs

Cant think why the Italians stayed in Garda and the like, rather than travelling 1,000 miles to the delights of the Essex coast
![]() Oh and I think possibly offering Italians a pasta dinner might have been the final straw

Just come back from a week in Chianti......Wild Boar stew would have been more tempting. Or should that be Wild Bore?

"I've had to take back everything I ever spoken ill of that D One, it is a superb boat and the most fun I've had recently in a single hander, it's probably a bit big for me, but nonetheless it's an absolute joy to sail, the very antithesis of that RS100, it's in a totally different league." from the demo day post..
I've been very wrong about this boat, can't say how bad I feel about all the bollox that i certainly had a part in, it is a really well put together, stable, well mannered boat, OK I still think the lefty one eye look is perhaps not the coolest look, but once you sail it and hoist and recover the kite, gybe it, tack it hike it upwind, it just does everything well, it's not surprising it's slowly gaining momentum on it's own merit. It must be a simply awesome boat to compete in, I don't think I'd hold it much past 10-12 knots, but in anything less than that I reckon I could do some damage in our club events. Provided the course suits naturally and on a windward leeward,it would rock. |

Don't forget there is a smaller main available at 9.5 sqm, could be ideal for you. It really does seem that all you have to do is get somebody into a D-One for them to realise what a superb boat it is, I've seen people decide to buy one after just 10mins afloat recently. |

It has been a long and laborous task even getting people in the boat roger.
I am genuinely happy that people are now at least giving it a go. It's a truelly awesome boat, very underated. It's been a good year so far for the class and shaping up to be even better?
