Sounds good, how about contenders, rs300s, blazes?  3 singlehanders with different sets of skills to sail well, and you're unlikely to stick your foot thru' them!

Two Handicaps please

I am still hoping to sail the d-one shortly, however one thing I question is
the wing adjustment. I have not seen any pictures with the production
wings set at the inner position and I expect it might look a bit odd? All of
the photos including those with luca sailing show the wings out and all
the tests I have read talk about them set out. Given that the boat was
deigned for us bigger lads I am surprised that 20cm is disappearing from
§the width for 85kg plus or am I just getting this wrong? In that respect
the different rig sizes of the RS100 seems a better way forward. WIth the
D-one I would think I had bought a beautiful boat and then have to sail it
b**tardised with the wings in.

I realise that Luca has designed it with one design in mind hence weight
compensation and also handicapping is not relevant where he sails.

However, I think it would really seriously broaden the appeal in the UK if
two handicaps were promoted, one when sailing it 'equalised' and a
second slightly lower number for big lads using full wings?

If this is promoted from the outset, then we all win?

Rodney any feel for handicaps yet?

Quoting Turnturtle from other thread...

"dude- you spent xxx on seemingly the first, and currently, only boat of its
kind in private ownership in the UK without knowing, or apparently, caring
about the handicap... that must be one very, very sweet ride or just the
about the biggest impulse purchase I've heard of in dinghy terms... you're
admirably mad and probably should be certified... good on you!"

There are many reasons why I bought the boat, and they are born from the ride, as you put it....it was very very nice.

Impulse buy...certainly not, I have been watching all this development very very closely, from both sides of the camp and I absolutely knew what I wanted.

Each boat will have its own market, I believe personally (for my own circumstances) that the D-One meets my requirements, I am enthusiastic about that...christ, Iv'e waited bloody 20 odd years for it.

When I sailed the D-One it all fitted into place (for me) I am sure that other people will feel the same, when they get the chance to sail one, should they so wish.

I have sailed RS700's and Skiffs, I know their differences and how the market has gravitated.

I have spent the last couple of years racing 400's, I definately understand what I want out of a boat.

Looking at the spec of the D-One (sail area, and hull design) I am certain that it fits my current requirements. Obviously I would have liked to sail one in a blow, but then if the boat is done right (which I believe it is) then its going to be fun.

It was certainly really good fun in a force 2....so bring on the wind.

I am sure people think I am mad.....I most certainly am not, this sort of thing must of happened when the 700 came out.....I had one of the first ones, nobody ever moaned then, but then I guess it was the norm to be RS-tastic.

I still am RS-tastic.....my 400 is definately my favourite allrounder boat so far....and I've sailed a few (Mike Lyons knows that) I am hoping that the D-One will take that slot.

So....back to the PY....

My personal reasons for buying this boat mean that the PY was not going to stop me.

I think there was some PY work done with Sten early on, but I am not sure.

Obviously it's an important issue, but I am not an official on the subject, so I will have to be told the figure, when I sail and the returns get done then it will iron itself out.

In the meantime I will enjoy sailing it.

Tim

I would think the D1 is very simular to your RS400 for speed round the course and I would guess the PY to end up some where in that area. not as fast as a Mustoskiff but faster than a laser. in light winds you will most likely be a bandit like the phantom is and when its windy get thrashed by trapeze boats but thats handicap racing for you.

it does feel great to sail, so have a go if you get a chance, Race in Garda Portoroz on october 2 – 4 and Torbole race on oct 23 – 25. I am sure Luca will make it a good party

I guess there will be all the same issues getting to a PY for the RS100:-)

Unless any of you know differently?

Sten,

That would be my guess too...and you are right about handicap racing.

Er this does beg the question why on earth if you were that convinced did
you put a deposit on an RS100? They are chalk and cheese the two boats
could hardly like the one AND the other.

Not that it matters, but human buying decisions interest me..
