I'm sure there's a good reason, but why didn't you just use off-the-boom sheeting, with a ratchet block half way along the boom? Isn't there a lot of friction with 'along the floor' - saw that on old Vauriens in Holland, but it worked out a bit asymmetric too, having to pass one side of the tiller. |

That is the obvious solution and the one I tried first ... it's OK upwind but downwind it really gets in the way of the crew especially on the run when the crew is sitting on the leeward deck - the mainsheet was right accross the crews throat ... The new system has a couple more turns but with nice Harken blocks and a tapered sheet fiction is not a problem. I also expect it to be easier to tack as the extension will go through easier ... All of this is yet to be proven on the water but I have every confidence in my contrivance ... |

They have a system that goes from the transom strop to boom end and down to a pulley on the floor at center line next to or near the rudder pintel and then along to a center main block. It was something I was thinking of doing, had a picture around somewhere of it on a AU Cherub but I can't find it. here is the along the boom to the goose neck one: ![]() |
