I do agree that the main benefit of the sea is the breeze, on the whole that is. Try Lyme in the summer and quite often there is less there than inland. The pond I sail on doesn't stink so I'm ok. I quite like sea sailing, but I prefer inland probably due to the practice there, and normally if its getting boring there is something to look at.

I do agree with the comment about the QMSC launching though, bit steep to be easy
Everything I say is my opinion, honest

Hey Maxi,
 that has been the biggest evident handicap at QMSC, together with the 'attitude' of some who rigged their boats at the top of any spare slipway then walked off to .... somewhere;
Net result several log-jams of other boats needing to start earlier but unable to launch in time, as they couldn't back-up to clear space to re-arrange these ghostly hulks.
QMSC did say that, ".... they were aware of the problem ....", but overwhelmed by the pressure of numbers to do anything about it.

No-one can squeeze past ..... when you're as "Chunky" as myself !

Actually Ben I think maxi meant that the launching down the side of the pond is a bit steep & the situation that you remember is a differant thing entirey.

sums up my feelings exactly! LOL
i would never be a member of a club were i would have to get wet feet to launch my boat!! Wink

you are right Bert, I've only done the bloody Mary twice so not come across the log jam to much but those sides are steep

THe sides are bloody dangerous, if it were not for the bloody mary i would never sail there again!  I really am surprised that some health and safety nut has not closed access to the public down!

It is quite a steep & slippy slope. However you have to make your mind up when you see it as to weather you want to sail.

From my point of view I have turned up there to sail rigged the boat & watched about 8 or 9 boats launch & then wondered about how they were going to get out again.

I then decided that I valued my boat higher then the likely hood of damage & landing my boat against the steep stone sides was the final factor.

Drove home the 120 miles that I drove that morning & was happy with that decision.

Just MY choice when considering my boat & the weather was not fun, yours is possibly diffident.

Whilst we're on this QM digression, I don't understand why they don't have shallow ramps leading to launching pontoons like at King George (another Thames Water reservoir). Frankly, for the size of the club, the entire "bund" should be lined with launching pontoons.

Not wanting to digress too much but I have sailed at QM for the Blaze inlands. The slopes are steep but with a bit on co-operation between sailors launching and recovery is not usually a problem (unless you are the first back).

Buddying up makes light work. I recall a Scorpion nationals where it took at l;east 6 people to get the boats up off the beach. Everyone teamed up, together with a good shore crew, there were no real issues despite the weather and waves!
