And why does any of that worry the rest of us?
A championship with over 100 entries is still a great event. It still takes a bit of talent to win it. A lot of classes would do well to respect that.

No, it can be withdrawn at the class'request or if it can no longer meet specified criteria.

Pretty sure 3/4 of a typical i14 worlds fleet is non uk.
Uk, Germany, France, USA, Canada and Australia all have strong fleets. Japan still has a few.
Sure it’d be nice to have more nations but it’s a legit international class.

Sure, that was the point - classes like the Int 14 ARE truly international. The GP14 worlds, by contrast, has lots of British and Irish boats but very few race in other countries and only a couple of boats from outside the UK and Ireland go to the "worlds". Arguably the 14s have a real world title whereas the GP14s don't.

There were several victories in the Larks by female helms a while back. My other half was crewing in one of them. All female teams in hiking boats a particular rarity.

Ellie did incredibly well at the solos. The first lady to win a race at the solo nats ever! I spoke to a few of the guys there and they all said she was well punchy on the start line and often very exposed sitting over the line.

What has the 'RYA Meat grinder' gpt to do with publicity? I am pretty sure that the effectiveness and activeness of the class associations has put the people nominated into public awareness.
Also who cares if this is a way of creating awareness for a magazine and as a by product some people that have been successful in racing results get some recognition. Fair play to them I say!

It's not at all 'easy' , it' just a different proposition coming in to a class you're a professional at with many years experience and racing against younger sailors who you're similar in stature to and who have most only had one or two years experience in the boat. There probably a handful of adults with lots of experience and being the right size (John, Jon, Steve and Ben Elvin (yourself?)).

Compare that to the 200s which Maria won. Next best female helm was in 40th. Most the top sailors are blokes, a lot of which have been top laser, 29er and 420 sailors in the past, and are now several more years experienced.

Possibly Ellie Cumpsty at the Solo nationals is a more similar comparison... had she not got 3 OCS.

I wasn't commenting on the relative achievements - Maria's in the 200 is clearly more surprising/interesting, just that she's not the only female national champion.

Yeah she would have been on for a top 5 had she not been applying laser fleet starting tactics  LOL  Not bad considering she had jumped into a borrowed boat, but it's the results on the page at the end that count!  Shame really.

As to competition stuff, there's a young Snipe sailor, she's won two world titles this year, but she's not part of the RYA meat grinder, so it goes un noticed.
Well spill the beans, which world titles and what made them notable?

But, none of those nominated are in the RYA squad system either. And, from the list I think it's only Dave Hivey and Maria who have been in the past.

In fact, the Partingtons and Mike Senior are both remarkable for the fact that neither has had any involvement with the RYA and have both instead involved themselves with classes which are a big part of their respective local sailing scenes and have both this year been paid off after many many years of persistence with a world title.

Seems your limited radar is basically hythe and windsurfing and if it's not from there it's a rigged ploy by the RYA and yachting press to reward ex-squaddies.
