you try sheeting in while the mainsheet eats away at the side of a block! and helps if we had a 4k kite and not a wayfarer one!

The wind so was good! two-up hiking, nice gentle breeze, sun, what more do you want!

Helm was complaining of man-flu, so as there was a damn good (if blustery, as ever) I cadged what ride I could find- in today's case a Vago. Which I am, really, rather too big for- bit cramped up front. Certainly weren't underpowered though, even with the smaller main. Had fun, especially when broadreaching with the kite. Planing along with a kite up can never be anything other than fun, no matter the boat.
Crewing it confirmed by thoughts from the last time I sailed one- the design is somewhat careless. Jib cleats poorly located (very hard to get cleated if you're traping properly forward), little to get traction on when jumping in and out from the wire in gusts. Had to have feet a bit wider part apart than ideal due to poor grip- I could feel the boat flex in gusts!
We swapped roles for the second race (Geoff usually singlehands it, and was glad for the extra body today). Seemed to be fairly easy to get it to go where I wanted. Couldn't quite get the controls set right really, which probably didn't help our speed. It was still fun, for all it's foibles. More fun than a club Laser would have been.
