Seems to be giving a pretty good account of itself for a hiking boat in Luca's latest video, and i still can't see it as ugly. http://www.devoti-one.com/sites/default/files/videos/te std-onemeetrs700.flv Edited by brookesy |

Having sailed the prototype RS100 and ordered a build slot, I thought it would a good idea to at least try the D-one, and boy am I glad I did. I absolutely loved it. It performed really well in a force 2, beautifully balanced hull and rig. All the controls were sorted and fitted out perfectly, and the production boat was just lovely. Just what I have been waiting for all these years. I was so happy in fact I bought one on the spot, and cancelled my 100 order. I look forward to sailing my D-One next weekend. Rodney from Suntouched was very helpfull and I even got a phone call from Luca for tips and tricks on sailing the D-One. Thanks to Burghfield SC for allowing the demo. Check out my blog on how I get on sailing it...I can't wait. Tim Edited by timg |

So what's the big deal with the D-One? What made you like it so much? We need lots of details, please - objective and subjective! |

Wooohooo! Cat among the pigeons there ! So as one of the very few people to have tried both the 100 and the D1, what's the comparison and where does the D1 score above the 100 ? |

I suspect the big hit for the 100 is that with 2 rigs the lighter among us will have a competitive option with the smaller rig. However from everything I have heard about the D1 its a boat for heavier folks. Its a shame as I actually like the look and concept of the D1 but just fear I would be too light for it.

Now now James, leave the D1 sailor alone!!! I do take your point about comparing a production boat to a 'work in progress'. Until RS have actually finalised the production version, comparing a quick splash in a 'close but not quite there proto' to a full on production boat is a bit like comparing apples with cider!!! Ultimately its each to their own. |

I wanted a singlehanded boat that compared to the rs400 in all round sailability and fantastic design. Stepping into the D-One I felt like I was putting on a pair of comfortable shoes. Having sailed 700's and Musto Skiffs I wanted to hike instead of trapeze, as that's how I prefer to sail, although to get the speed and performance those trapeze boats were a necessary evil. If I could get close to the performance of those boats in a hiking dinghy then I was always going to change class. I guess it was just a matter of time. The D-One was extremly stable while sorting the daggerboard and rudder out, not tippy at all. The mainsail is big at 11sm but you can do a lot with the rig setup, and so depowering will be fine. I was extremly pleased to be fully hiked on the side in such light winds, and I am 6ft2 and 88kgs. The boat tacks smoothly and the traveller for the mainsheet is a great idea. I used to sail Tasars and this is a great way of tuning a big fully battened sail. With the spinnaker (15sm) up the boat just wants to go, and everything felt smooth. The spinnaker hoist was easy as was the drop and the hull is stable as I said before so that went fine. When I first hiked out I wanted to adjust the toestraps, and the cleat was right by my hand, just exactly where I needed it. The cockpit is very spacious. All in all a beautiful boat really. I am not going to get into specific comparisons between a production boat and a prototype, suffice to say that I think that the D-One suits my particular requirements for a singlehanded hiking asymetric. I thoroughly suggest that you have a go in one, you will love it. Tim |
