They should know to use the boats own momentum to bear away. I.e windward heel and follow the boat with the rudder.

If anything you want to go with speed and stab the bow straight off the wind. Slowing down loads the rig up behind you as does a more gradual bear away and the bow goes down. From watching the video, as previously mentioned, the crew should have been in the toe loops and better balanced. Also it doesn't seem if the jib is eased throughout the manouvere, or at least substaintially enough. When we bear away, I'll ease the sheets as I steer the boat off the wind, if you misjudge either you swim when its windy.

the better you get the less jib that you have to ease, the reason why It happened is because they both were not far back enough in the boat, crew not in toeloops and the crew should not have main on 29er on the bear away - if you watch it closely the crew sheets the main back on to keep himself on the wire.

yer well it helpsif i dont ditch u in before the start!

we beat mr 5knots in the morning but he was 4th in the evening,  we had a top speed of 13.7knots and averaged 5knots over the day and traveled 21.3 nortical miles.  also the sun set was at 4.41pm!

i should get out more
