2) Although at club level (small un competitive fleets) sailing a laser may seem boring, try racing one in a fleet of over 100 boats at a nationals or qualifier event, where you get 4 or 5 rows of boats fighting for a good start and seriously close and tactical racing in often challenging conditions (memories of strong winds and huge waves outside the plymouth sound or strong tides at felixtowe)
3) I actually keep toying with the idea of buying another radial for racing in the qualifier series as i enjoyed the standard of racing so much.

I recomend that before you bash a class you try it, sail a season in a radial (your definatly not heavy enough to be quick in a full rig), sail the qualifier series and the nationals and see how you rank. Then  give your opinions of the class

Mate that is so well said, and exactly what i have done! Although i have to sail with full rig beacuse i'm too big for a radial

I have raced in big fleets, granted it wasn't a laser though. Topper nationals, inlands and open meetings can compare to the laser fleet. I'm not class bashing, I am shure/know that the laser class is wonderful and have great events and racing. I'm boat bashing, not class bashing. If someone said that Cheurbs are horrid to sail, I wouldn't take offence and I wouldn't claim to be insulted by it either. However I would contest that they were wrong.

If you can't carry it, don't sail it!

Oh, they can be quite horrible uncomfortable things with the ever present danger of your mainsheet getting caught on the transom, and a tendancy to deathroll downwind. But I doubt you could design a better boat blindfold...

Well I have a £500 Laser and it is still very competitive, nothing wrong with mine!

And back to the thread, I sailed this weekend, 49er third generation development Carbon rig, square top main and a building westerly breeze in the North Sea.

Rig performing very well!

Its a good idea the new rig only problem is how it effects the Joe Public fleet!  Its certainly stopping us moving to the class for the time being!
