What he said. Right there.
I was commodore of Ranelagh SC when we celebrated Jack's 75th and we held a celebratory cruise down the Thames from Putney to Greenwich with as many Jack Holt boats as wanted to turn up. There was quite a wide selection including some rarities - (who now remembers the Lazy E?) - and Jack, who was on the Official Launch ( a Champ borrowed from the Sea Cadets!) was visibly moved by it all.
I'm not sure he actually set out to 'bring sailing to the masses'. It's just that being a very ordinary, unassuming and humble man he never thought of it any other way. We all owe him and others like him a great debt in my opinion.
Oh, and for those who don't know but want to (both of them!), the 'Lazy E' was a big Enterprise with a trapeze...

I'm not arguing. I'm explaining why I'm right.

It would be great to see a Lazy E there and there is a rumour that one has been found but what condition she is in we dont know. Still active in Australia I believe. We do have a register of interest from a Jacksnipe another of his good ideas that unfortunatley didnt make it. Be great to see her out on the water.

Yes, the Lazy E (sadly renamed the National E years ago) is still active in Australia in a small way; see http://www.nationale.org.au
My recollection is that either Jack or Beecher Moore specifically set out to bring sailing to the masses. I'll check some of Beecher's articles. |

Just a few weeks to go now and it looks like we may have at least one and possibly two Jacksnipes at the event. A class we thought was lost. Great news.

Looking forward to the unusual boats being there, but people who have fun sailing his popular designs are also very welcome, of course, with the added bonus of sailing on the same water as the rare ones.
So, which will be faster, the Hornet or the Jacksnipe? |
