The Contender is a great dinghy to sail. I'm above 90k (gulp) and the Contender carries it with ease. The boat is well sorted and the class has plenty of experts and information available to help new owners. The boat provides a great challenge and wiring on a reach is pure magic. The boat will go upwind well if you set it up right, and a bit of heel in light winds keeps the boat going well. The only down side is the boom is low when the kicker is hard on which means you need to work hard to get around the boat, but that's it. Go on treat yourself. MB

My Contender cost the princely sum of £360, and it's still fast. Fair enough, won't win the worlds (or even an open meeting) but there is not an RS600 in existence for that price. |

I regularly sail my 600 at Burghfield SC, which isn't hage and has a
nice selection of islands to add to the fun. Whilst its difficalt to
race the boat to its handicap, i seldom find the lack of space too much
of a problem and it sharpens up your boat handling skills for when
racing on the open circuit.
If your interested in having a go in a 6 we have a demo boat, either PM me or get in contact via the RS association. Otherwise i'd definaly second the RS300, very quick and goes round the corners well too.. - Mark, Rs600 Rep. |

Good to know. I have been tentative about dropping the cash to buy one to sail on a 160 acre lake.
Looking at the second hand market (even with the climbing 600 prices) the contender looks more a more expensive option. |

800 square meters (0.2 Acres) or 800 meters by 800 metres (640,000m^2 or 160 Acres). It makes quite a difference!!
160 Acres is fine for an RS600. 0.2 acres might be best adapted to a British Moth! |

What about a Laser Vortex? The more stable platform may help the learning process. Which inland water are you thinking of? Have you had a look there to see which fleets are strongest? Plenty of other boats of the same class will give you chance to learn from other sailors, and you'll also be sure that the boat is sailable on that stretch of water. You may even be offered the chance to have a sail before you buy |

Or maybe a Blaze ? Does not meet the sub 1020 requirement anymore than the Phantom but pointing and other characteristics all there - 90kg is well within the range and 10m of drive will get you windward pointing in breezy conditions. If you must have a wire the Contender idea is a good one.
