Oh nonsense Strawberry, I can't honestly think of a boat I like better for messing about in the surf next to the beach than a Laser. Its great for that,. and its pretty much what its designed for. The huge racing thing was kindof an accident!

Well I wasn't only addressing your example. But OK then. IRC Nationals, class 1 (average size 38-40 foot), 20 entries. IRC Nationals class 2 19 entries. Sigma/38 nationals 19 entries. Still rather more than your 10. None of winning crews will have had anyone whose only job is "rail meat". Try gybing one of these in a breeze if you want to know why not.

lol that reminds me of a time that a 16 year old was on the tiller of a 40 ft boat .i was onboard too and a sqall hit and we had to jibe and we jibed but as we pulled out we broached and he was still on the tiller and got thrown overboard

Now look, every dinghy sailor knows leadmines are only owned by people who are too old to race dinghies and crewed by people who are too cheap to buy their own boat. Otherwise why have them...
