Scottish Skiff Racing ran a poll on the yahoo group to see what people thought the difinition of a 'skiff class' should be. This is what the the result was...

What is a skiff?

There is no clear definition of a skiff so we polled the Scottish Skiff Racing members and we came up with the following definition.

Monohull Asymmetrics with a PY of 930 or less AND Monohull single-sailed boats with a PY of 990 or less.

This means the following boats currently fit with the above definition.

18ft Skiff, 49er, RS 800, Laser 5000, Boss, Int. 14, RS700, International Canoe (with kite), Musto Skiff, B14, International Canoe (no kite), Laser 4000, Cherub , RS600, 29er, ISO, Spice, Cherub: Current design - single-wire, International Moth (non-foiling), and VORTEX.

(The above classes section may be slightly out of date now)

I personally think that this definition is pretty good and includes all boats which i  would consider a skiff class.

We have a pretty relaxed interpretation of the description and generally recon that anything with a PY of a 29er or higher classifies! even a foiling/standard Moth! I enjoy watching others swim along with me and my 49er!!

Noticed in the Y&Y advert the new RS500 is now a skiff, I assume theyll be allowed to enter your 'skiff' event?

Hi to all high performance yotties

There will be a High Performance (Skiff) series within Poole Week this year. Run between the 27th August and the 1st September there will be excellent racing and social activities for everyone. Look at the web site at www.parkstoneyc.co.uk for further details. There is an expanding skiff fleet at Parkstone which is very keen to attract new participants. Poole harbour is a great venue and we are a pretty hospitable lot.
