The MPS was designed long before the 700 and went through an extensive R&D process with long testing and refinement driven by an international panel of expert sailors ... that is why the boat today is the same as it was when it was launched ... I think you should expect the D1 to be equally well tested to its design brief.

As stated, I've not sailed either. Your results from 2006 don't mention whether this was on corrected time or over the water. The PY numbers suggest the 700 is faster.

But your other point reinforces what I'm saying. "We" are all raving about the RS100 and caning the Devoti. But the pedigree heritage of the MPS's design process (or other) brought it to the top of the heap against the 700. Be interesting to see how things settle after the D-One and RS100 have both been in production for a year.

The racing at the Tide Ride was boat for boat; no handicaps. The 700 brigade will be along in a moment to tell you their PY is more accurate than ours ... I have long since stopped caring about the PYs, class racing is where it's at ...

We've been wondering about that of late.

Particularly after this weekend, where your man was upside down under the
sail on the gun. Then having caught us at the gybe he proceeded to ram a
slow handicap boat and have to peel off to do his turns. He finally overhauls
us about a third of the way down the long reaching leg to the destination,
yet still wins on handicap in a 45 minute race.. Now he's good, but not that
good and with two blunders like that....

As opposed to the man who's pimping the Musto professionally? Give it a rest...

All I've said is the D-One is ugly. I'm sure it is a dam fine boat to sail.
The RS looks pretty and also looks like a nice boat to sail.

Let's face it, if you are paying for it who's going to go for the ugly one in
the corner even if she has a little more experience? My money would be
spent on the fit pretty one for sure.

The interesting thing about the D-One will be the rules they race under,
it'll be interesting to see what these ' MORE FUN' rules look like. Thing is
that only works at Open Meeting's of a certain critical mass. It isn't going
to work at club level where the majority of sailing happens.

Rick, I couldnt possibly claim that the 700 handicap is right and the MPS is wrong. In my opinion the PYs of boat boats are wrong, its just your's is worse than ours

Hi Rockhopper, You may have missed my post yesterday so here is the relevant content:

Next week the D-One can be seen and tested during Chichester Harbour Federation Week and we will be publishing further test days in a couple of weeks (hopefully including Datchet or QM, and Rutland).  Anyone who wants to try one can email me at rodney@suntouched,co.uk.  If Fed week doesn't work then we can arrange demos at other times by prior arrangement.’

Whilst I am at it I can elaborate on next week’s test opportunities during Fed week (Hayling Island).  We can organise test sailing from Monday 10th August – Thursday 14th August.  Anyone interested should contact me for details and arrange a time to be sure to get a sail.

We have held a number of UK test days to date only to have half of them blown off by gales so will program such events in future over a few days, where possible, to improve the chances of getting the right weather for these activities.

We are now adding a few test days in Weymouth, mid September, dates to be published soon.  If anyone would like to test the boat at their own sailing club we can arrange this, subject to the numbers interested and facilities available; please contact me for more details.

We will be mailing all of those who are interested with updates on the D-One and also more test/demo days.  Those interested should get onto our mailing list by just dropping us an email.

Rodney

Fair play. I for one think it looks pretty good. It looks like a boat  with a lot of grunt, a physical boat to sail. I like the wings on it, the traveller system (don't know what it does, I think "yots" have them) but it looks good. I like the wide stable transom and the way it goes off wind without the the front going miles in the air (a good or bad thing I do not know). I like the cockpit layout. I think with all the design and testing it will be another pedigree boat like to MPS and with the right CA behind it I do not see why it would not be as successful. However, with the home grown RS100 in the running too then I think it might struggle a bit here in the UK.
