I get my info from the difference in PY numbers. If you are associated with the D-One marketing team you're are not doing them any favours. You may have missed my point. In fact, thinking about it, I merely asked a question. Didn't sl*g the D-One or the MPS. I'm not a specialised critic (I have the occasional ironic pop at GRF and have a pathological hatred of any dinghy with a blue sail with an E on it - but that's it) and I haven't seen any pimps in the mirro since puberty.

ciao

Dave, No problem with your posting!  I don't even care which is faster, the RS700 or the MPS and I have no idea who Italian Laser Sailor is but for sure he has nothing to do with us or with Devoti marketing.

As the UK dealers for the D-One we try to leave the forums, as much as possible, alone and concentrate our efforts on getting the boat seen wherever possible.  Next week the D-One can be seen and tested during Chichester Harbour Federation Week and we will be publishing further test days in a couple of weeks (hopefully including Datchet or QM, and Rutland).  Anyone who wants to try one can email me at rodney@suntouched,co.uk.  If Fed week doesn't work then we can arrange demos at other times by prior arrangement.

Some people have had problems finding us so here it is http://www.suntouched.co.uk

Keep on posting here your input is always welcome.

Rodney

Are you for real?  You really are doing the D one no favours at all, why are you so aggressive and defencive.

The only way he D-one is going to gain in popularity on this forum is by intellectual chat about the benefits of the boat and people actually sailing it.

Its how the post is written, or perhaps how it reads!  Not so much its content.

The point I was trying to make before ILS took offence at my daring to claim that the MPS is slower than the RS700 (and, having sailed neither, I can claim to be unbiased if not experienced)...

...was that on paper the RS700 should have cleaned up. It was faster (can we at least agree that it carries more canvas*) and cheaper, it had stuff like the raking daggerboard and the pump spinnaker system. And yet the MPS is the one everyone has gravitated towards.

And so I am interested as to why. And whether it could happen again. The RS is pretty much a UK class while the MPS has cleverly become an ISAF international class. From speaking to those with direct experience of the respective merits of both dinghies I was told that the build quality of the MPS is second to none while the RS700 was "built to a price". Don't know, could be wrong.

This thread is about the D-One, not the MPS and not the RS700. On paper, It doesn't seem to cut the mustard as well as the RS100. It's more expensive and not as attractive. The weight of opinion on this forum amongst members whose opinions I have read and respected over the past three years say that the RS100 is the one to go for. But Devoti/Victor have got the measure of RS in the past and I am curious whether, with all the superstar endorsements the D-One is getting, Devoti might do it again.

Cheers everyone. Sailing is to make friends. Forums, on the other hand...

* Canvas is me speaking figuratively. I should, for clarity, explain that I mean a combination of mylar and dacron. No, I don't know what weight.

Try writing your reply in Italian and see if the finer nuances of your message get across.

I wouldn't attempt to post on an Italian forum unless i was confident i could converse with other forum members, especially if i was trying to promote a class.

Non tenterei di inviare su una tribuna italiana a meno che fossi sicuro io potessi conversare con altri membri della tribuna, particolarmente se sterà provando a promuovere un codice categoria.

Have you sailed an MPS or 700? I'd say you are wrong on both points and the Tide results back up at least the performance issue but probably the ease of handling the MPS also contributed to the Tide Ride results on those tight courses.

The MPS was designed long before the 700 and went through an extensive R&D process with long testing and refinement driven by an international panel of expert sailors ... that is why the boat today is the same as it was when it was launched ... I think you should expect the D1 to be equally well tested to its design brief.

Anyway this thread is about the D1 ...

As stated, I've not sailed either. Your results from 2006 don't mention whether this was on corrected time or over the water. The PY numbers suggest the 700 is faster.

But your other point reinforces what I'm saying. "We" are all raving about the RS100 and caning the Devoti. But the pedigree heritage of the MPS's design process (or other) brought it to the top of the heap against the 700. Be interesting to see how things settle after the D-One and RS100 have both been in production for a year.

How many d ones have been sold does anyone know as it will be intresting to see the sales figures we all that rs have pushed the 100 with the offer for first 100 boat being a grand cheaper. Its a shame that we keep mud slinging each boat i am sure the d one is great i think the difference is that alot of people have sailed the 100 compared to the few who have sailed the d one over here it will be good to see the boat have a public test day then i think people can decide if they like it or not for me it looks ok i would think that is a nice boat to sail
