on the B14s, it was the Aussies that started the dacron jib trend (and won a worlds with one, thus making them a "must-have" naturally). There were North, Ullman and Dynamic versions in use at the nationals. As I understand it, it's for reduced cost at certainly no reduction in lifespan- North are rather keen to push them to try to offset the eye-wateringly expensive 3DL main.

In some cases dacron is now more expensive than the cheaper mylar laminates. It is also a very under rated material probably because it isn't black and sexy. The good news for the sport is that because the laminates are getting cheaper this should in theory filter down to the likes of 3dl etc and make them more affordable. The important word being "should"!
