Yipeeeeee! Trapezing a Topper!!!
I've had a go at a Contender yesterday, I want one now! What about a carbon mast with spreaders, stays, shrouds and trapeze wires? Either the mast would snap or the hull would rip open
We need to work on the design, boys and girls... Any engineers amongst you?

No!! I was going to go on an engineering thing for a day jus to get out of school but....I'm not sure that really counts!!

Yeah you'd have to either buy a bigger mast (make the mast cup, or whatever bigger) or use a much heftier downhaul or I dunno!

Would we need to sand the bottom down to make it pointier??! Cos a lot of like the moths e.t.c have quite a prominent hull!

I would put a picture in but the computer was being daft!!

The topper hull isn't very stiff (especially if you get a cheap old one).

Why not get two toppers and make a cat, call it a topcat or something, bit more room for modifications then...

Life's a reach, then you gybe

why not leave the modyfying a topper hull and either use it as a mould for a stiff enough hull or make one out of plywood

obviously the unstayed rig is very inefficent using a lever effect to resist the rig loads with avery short lever hence not very good, therefore the place to start would be with putting a stayed mast on it deck stepped to avoid snaping at deck level like a keel steped one will, therefore a king post and chainplates would be required with frames to stop it being squished like a clam and something to stop it bending longitudially under the rig loads eg tension.

For simlicaty for rigging why not tie a peice of string to the top of the mast trapize off that then for the tacks swing yourself around the bow, the gybes might be eisier to swing around the back

Note:
Should not be attempted at home everyting suggested here is only to be done by trained profesionals under carefully controled conditions:

If it doesn't break it's too heavy; if it does it wasn't built right
