Jim, i absolutly agree but at the bloody mary Changing one handicap wiould cause uproar and probably result in a protest (only if the boat one) and your right it would be a nightmare for the race officer because once you change on class handicap then you WILL have to do it to all the others.  Thats development boats for you its a bitter pill to swallow but none the less!

How do you work out the start times for a persuit race?

If you can't carry it, don't sail it!

Basically, the reverse of how you work out corrected times in a normal handicap race.

The easy way is to have a nominal 100 minute race. You then work back from the finish time. Say finish 16:00. PY 1000 takes 100 minutes, starts 14:20. PY 1200 takes 120 mins, starts 14:00, PY 900 takes 90 mins, starts 14:30 and so on. For different length races just do the sums.
Oh and you will want to round off all handicaps to the nearest minute or two minutes, depending on how keen you are. Two minutes means less chance of starts overlapping.

Most clubs when running a pursuit race display numebers which signify what the next start is. The details vary enormously so you always need to read the SIs carefully.

When my club does a pursuit when you number gets displayed it is a minute before you start so when your number goes it is your start. But as Jim says you need to check SI to know what the rules are for the event.

Ill be there in the 600 (taped together or otherwise). i have a nasty suspicion that those bright purple streaks of progirp down the side decks will stand out very well when the boat is laying on its side in the water. anyway look out for me and come and say hi!
600 732, will call it Sticks and Stones when i get round to it.

yah, set up to the tuning guide, i "borowed" a mates rig tension gauge to check all the settings, but the diaonds are just guess work because ive had to adjust the shackle (with a hammer) to get both of them to sit level and i have not had a rig tension gauge available since then.
