No I think it's an Rs700 kite, but it could be an 800 I've no idea, I did ask for size 'f.uck off big' and off the mast head. It does work well.
Don't you just know it.. ![]() I'm sure no-one takes me that seriously, except bearded sock in sandal wearing weirdo's from Frensham Pond that is... |

He's right, there are so many little things that need sorting now and the combination make a lot to do, it was a bloody miracle what happened yesterday, just 2nd time out that it did all that, frankly we're all a bit nonplussed given how bad it went first go round. Now they were really benign conditions in flat water and although we did get out in the mid channel to bang it about and check that it remained 'sea' worthy, before some huge container thing forced us to high tail it back upwind, the Solent aint the English Channel and that's going to be it's big test, but it got so far yesterday for me to sign it off onto the next stage and paint and finish with with some more mods, loads of them and as Ash said as test sails go it was one of the better one's he's ever done, but more importantly it can only get faster from herein with all the stuff they have yet to do and now he's off on vacation so more waiting.. But come next spring and the Dinghy show if I'm spared, it should be a bit more polished and proven.

Well done Graeme, nice to see someone put their money where their mouth is.
I've got a nice big 14 kite if you want 'f.uck off big'
To be honest it is the most fun part of the job dveloping new stuff...

The new pics give a better idea of the size of the beast.
I think capsize recovery, single handed, will be pretty hard. Especially with the kite up and turtled. My B14 was a struggle and that was with more open weave tramps than you have. Your tramps also seem to be double skin ?? I've never seen a capsized Votex but I'm guessing they are a bitch to get righted on your own. Look forward to the next installments ! |

Not in my experience. I've only capsized one once, admittedly in light weather (trying to see if it was practical to do the wild thing downwind) and as I recall it was easy enough to right. |

Yes capsize is the next test, needs to be better controlled an a rib nearby just in case, I've got an idea to sort the turtle thing, may as well bounce it around.
I'm loving those wing masts, but can't afford to build one, but I'm thinking double skin a sail leading edge and fill it with a kitesurf bladder, so the sail mast combo would be air filled and reasonably fared, it would mean pumping it up like we do kitesurfing, but it would put paid to any idea of it going all the way over. I'm pretty sure I've got bladders in stock up to 30 ft span. Think I might have to use my windsurf sailmaker to do it though, yottie ones would think I'm mental.

Yep and they're on the death list, not needed on voyage.

Have a look at the first few moments of this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-kTmlCxvh8 Stop the movie when the boat is on it's side. JimC said they are ok to right. I think this is because they have twin dagger boards. It is very easy to get from the water to the lower board and then hang on to the upper board. Your Vtwin has a board in the middle and it will be very hard to get on to. Unless..... the crafty tunnel under the hull is a useful step ! |

Belatedly ( been away ) well done G.R.F, its looking good...
just think the next one will be lighter, faster, more ergonomic and even designed not to drown you when you capsize! LOL |

2 things to keep in mind righting a vortex were (for me anyway):
-Righting it like a dinghy with mast downwind in a blow doesn't work, too much windage on the hull blows it back over again. Needs bringing up nose into the wind or with the wind under the mast. More like a cat I guess. -Don't let go of it at any point as it drifts faster than you can swim with the wind behind it. Presumably somme of this would apply?
