You can pick up an alloy mast cheap as chips! And then do an assy conversion just like Andy's turbo charged scorp.

See: http://www.yachtsandyachting.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=8 33&PN=1&TPN=2

Doesn't look too difficult does it? If andy can do it.......anyone can. Only jokin duderino!

Yeah that does look great, i guess we could still sail it single wired until we found a tin mast or something and then we could double it although as it is old rules without the new massive kite and main, would we actually NEED double wires?

haggle it and then try and source a tin or carbon mast from somewhere as i would be very worried twinning that!! I've picked up loads of stuff on the cheap since joining the cherub class, 2 jibs and 2 kites for £110! you just have to ask people and they generally have old kit lying about that they don't use as it's old rules. Still perfect if you're not looking to win the nationals but have a good laugh i can asure you.

That boat looks great for what we would want, i thought it would be a really scabby one but it looks in suprisingly good condition. My only worry would be the wooden mast, doesnt that mean it will be very very easy to snap whilst out on the wire with a lot of kicker on?

Also would double wiring a wooden mast cherub break the mast?

Ooooo i think we should buy that, we might be able to haggle it down a bit lower .

Still comes out at under £2500 for that boat though which is a bargain by anyones standards.

I'm just about to bring my boat up to 05 spec and so far have spent a grand total of £190 and that includes an almost brand new tin mast, main, jib and kite from the I14 fleet. They will need to be cut down to size by a sail loft but it's the cheapest way of doing it. Might get some new sails with the new boat in a couple of years!

Haha, yer - or you can do it ALL on the cheap. ie Int 14 sails cut down, B14 main, RS800 kite, Spice kite, lots of ways of bringing a cherub into 05 spec

Who says development boats are expensive! Being a student myself, I could not afford the same boat im getting now as an Int 14. Go get a cherub, cheap performance and has to be said, the best sailing in England!!! Or move to OZ and sail a true 12.

Lets be clear - 300 squid for the initial purchase, scrounging a load of cast off carbon spars and then the purchase of a nice new shiny set of Red Eyes.

either a ply or glass fibre and foam construction. I've got a 1989 Bistro and thats been upgraded to have a twin wire and had some new carbon bits built on to bring it up to the current rules. A perfect example is Iains Suicide Blonde. Its a 1989 Bistro the same as mine but he's put the  hours in and come out with one of the best looking boats on the water! Not bad for a boat that cost him around £300!

nice one Iain. Look forward to beating you at the nats
