Yes, and I still maintain this
to be true. The Cherub Daemons at the trial were both new 2005 ruled
boats which were down to weight and so their speed was similar round
the course to the other boats on trial. Dangerous Strawberry and Suicide
Blonde, the other 2 boats mentioned on this last page were built in the
early 1990's in peoples garages and have been brought up to the latest
sail size more recently. So is it really suprising that a 20 year old, 20kg
overweight boat is slower than a more modern skiff... is it?

The bestest, fastest, coolest and everythingest
boat was the 14. Hands down, by a mile. The girls loved it and were
queueing up to drive it. Carolijn Brouwer sailed it in 10knots on
Wednesday morning and just hammered everything else out there into
putty - even the GT!!! (lol).

The9er boats they had sailed before - most of them anyway and so had
some 'previous'. The 800 came into it's own on the windy days as it was a
bit more sorted and less fruity perhaps (has less sail area than a
cherub according to Nick Peters) The 29er XX was pretty underpowered in
less than 10 kts and was just not in the same league on pace as the other
boats - but does that matter? Ask any of the girls, the 14 ruled - with the
caveat that in over 10kts they were overpowered and a bit scared!!! - but
watching a couple of girls tipping the scales at 110kg all up cranking the
14 up and flat wiring downhill in 6kts of breeze was a great sight.
Anyone says they were faster in the light stuff needs their eyes testing. In
12kts the 800 won every heat - pretty convincingly!

Seems not all the Cherubs there agree all the boats went the same speed!!

That maybe so... although Dave Chiz is a fan of i14's. Nothing comes without some prejudice. There are all sorts of reasons people say and write things as there are reasons for putting a boat into a ISAF trail.

ARG! just been readin all this!! LADIES!! im just gona say this - please stop your petty arguments, everyone sails boats for their own reasons! Personally I came from an A class cat - then cherub, 49er, int moth, cherub now in 12ft skiff with an asmy scorpion back home! So we all sail the boats we sail for our own reasons. & stop having a go at cherubs 24/7!!! Yes a 12ft boat may not be the same pace upwind as a 49er all the time - DONE! BUUUT a new rules cherub once developed WILL be a good all round fast boat, both up and downwind!

So just stop bikkering, sorry if I sound like an old fart (not my intention by any mean feat!)

ps, 12ft skiff in 5 knots - gettin ma 90kg fat ass out and twin wiring up and downwind at over twice the wind speed, sorry ladies - thats the only sailing for me!!  Yes yes yes, 49er is a good boat - and the I14 is also good, but not for everyone! personally I love to just have fun, to come off the water with a constant smile and thats the 12ft skiff, 49er gets boring, i14 is too heavy & doesnt ever meet my budget - again all just personal points, but its the essence as to why we sail what we sail! I mean there are people out there who want to actually sail a bosun!!!

Maybe with the GT60 being something like a baby Beiker 14 this will be close to being true. A shame the nice looking Beiker bow much be bastardised to fit the rules though.

I thought the idea of forums like this was to have petty meaningless
arguments. Whats the point otherwise?

Yeah, it would all be pretty boring if everyone agreed with each other

Somehow I can't see that myself.

and... I'm not sure the youthful enthusiasum of some of the UK Cherub fleet on here don't deserve the sort of comments that get made.

Bow Profiles.. Jack i couldn't agree more. We've done the best we can, but I can't help thinking we're painting a moustache on the Mona Lisa.  The irony is the rule is there to stop the bow extension for the sprit housing coming down to the water line, but in what it does is force you to put in a the vertical 200mm section required by the rules as low as possible - perhaps making the bow look ungainly and awkward - and difficult to fair! It would be nice to be able to chop it off into a curve a la GT60, but rules is rules.

Handicaps: The Cherub, if it is a competitive 2005 rule'r should be sailing at way under 900.  It cannot be as slow as 975 or even 930... the Laser 4000 is on 906 and has been since I sailed them in 98 an 99 (when we had BIG fleets). Need different handicaps for light and windy conditions? - That's not going to work is it! Go an beat up your designer!!

I agree with Stu Tinner a bit tho,  build your own skiff for 50p and go blasting is be a lot of fun - bang for your buck and all that.  (Sadly ours didn't cost 50p to make tho!)

Looking at the championship figures as many people seem to be interested in the Bosun as the Cherub in this country.....No the whole story I concede, but it does justify a little "discussion"

haha! too true dude! but unfortunately it wasnt solely our fault - havoc doesnt have a back tank, so me being a little large the arse sinks during taks in light winds, and crews in the front bins!! so taped up the transum leaving a small gap for water to escape - but this lead to the prob that it just fills up, so when we were tryin to right the boat - crew in the water, im in the fron bin and as soon as the rig was upright it just fell over backwards!! this was a tad annoying - but im putting in a rear tank now and a flap like Grumble! So that should solve those issues, oh yer - also need practice as ive only just fully taken on the 12 and that was a new recruit crew! not mr gruitt.

and ps - we never turtled it
