Lol- I have to say a 100 never terrified me, I experienced mild peril in both a 300 and an MPS. The only time I've ever been terrified in a dinghy was on my 600 once and another time in a 420- I won't say the wind strength as it will be put down to 'forum wind', when in truth, it was one of those very rare 'big wind' sessions that we all get, maybe 3 or 4 times in a lifetime of amateur racing. The 420 was amazing, so was the guy crewing....

I agree Rodney, its wonderful that there are some good training classes developing so well. Hopefully the 700's and Musto's will start to benefit soon

I have no doubt about the numbers of RS100s in
circulation. The sales of D-Ones is
nearly 180 so far and, bearing in mind that RS have sold many boats to
institutions and that the D-One is priced to keep out the Riffraff out |

interesting data that actually put a little world wide perspective onto it.....
276 420's in 2012, 1521 in the last 5 years 145 Finn's in 2012, 900 in the last 5 years 77 Snipes in 2012, 445 in the last 5 years |

ISAF publish a report for each Int Class every year with data from the CA which includes numbers built. The Topper ones, for example, are here: http://www.sailing.org/classesandequipment/20184.php It includes:- How many new boats were built in [last year] How many boats were built over the past 5 years Approximately how many boats exist Worldwide However I suggest that the "how many boats exist worldwide" figure is best taken with a large pinch of salt for many of the classes. The Topper figure of 47,400 in 2012, for instance, implies that few Toppers have ever been destroyed, which I suspect may not be precisely correct. |

Ruscoe, Whilst we all know some classes sail numbers are over inflated I think you will have to accept the above figures. After all, only an utter fool would falsify figures in such a public way. I don't know if you know but as an ISAF class each boat built is issued with a builders plaque from ISAF. This is much like a tax disk. I am sure ISAF would be after Nick pretty quickly is the tax collected was short of the number of claimed boats built. As an aside I think ISAF could do all us sailors a favour by publishing the number of plaques issued each year for each ISAF class. Many classes don't have continuous sail numbers and this would be most interesting/helpful. |
