It was first done in 1935! and I'm sure I remember a well known TV presenter riding one on the Thames back in the '80s

I guess that level of training is available, but how many adults find the time And money to Make it happen?

An interesting  question...

especially given that  one of the major  growing 'indoor'   activities for adults ( both working  age and  older adults)  has  some very accessible  teaching / training  from world class  performers   (tenner  for an hour and a half at Herbal Hill  for  those in that there London although  those classes can be rather  crowded   with  two  of the better known names ) ...

I think recreational flat water SUP takes a change of mindset - the quietness and the ability to see down into the water mean it can be like paddling along in a big aquarium.

A few years ago, before the present SUP craze really got going, I spent an enjoyable couple of weeks 'SUPing' and fishing from a big double kayak in Florida Keys. It certainly concentrates the mind when you're reeling in a fish and a shark the size of the kayak pops up to eyeball it as a potential free meal...

Video not working.
No SUP in the World is as useful as a Kayak, SUP just a toy.

Interesting that at Merlin Week quite a lot of people were using SUPs to get back and forth to Millbay. A kayak would probably go a bit faster and carry a bit more cargo, but the strong point of the SUP (particularly an inflatable) is it's significantly more portable and easy to store.

Depends how you define useful really.

Ultimately a Laser / Int14 / Open 60 are all just toys. Going round and round in circles over and over again just to see who is fastest is hardly likely to solve the world's problems anytime soon...  Wink

In a Zombie apocalypse I would sooner have a dinghy, someone sailed all-round the UK in a Laser carrying camping gear, could do same with Kayak, I know someone is going to post a picture of a SUPer with a laden SUP and backpack
Back to thread, I would like a rotomould version of a H2 or similar but half price, quality of Hartley 15.
