6 miles for me. Another club slightly nearer but they sail less and the environs aren't as good.

As to above quote I have been looking at the possibility of a trailer for the bike for the kit bag - but the sails are still going to be an issue!
Like some other things - sailing is more enjoyable when you do it with someone else

Its 50 odd miles from my place to Netley.

Used to be a committed pond sailer and Datchet member, but I've never looked back since joining Netley.

I sail less frequently than I used to (other commitments not lack of wanting to) so I want to ensure that I sail somewhere thats worth it when I do go.  Good launching, good sailing area, very active fleet, sea breezes and waves to play on.

About 10 - 15mins by car & I can be at the boat park. I would cycle, but need to carry my damn great kitbag! There is my home towns sailing club, but I just like the neighbouring one - Practically grew up down the harbour & the l think the launching & sailing area is nicer - Sorry Rockhopper!! LOL

About 20 miles, 30 minutes to HISC. There are two or three clubs closer, but they are restricted by tide. HISC has plenty of members who drive considerably further (100 miles+) and might stay for the weekend.

Six miles from home to my dinghy club (Draycote).  The Sabre is on a swinging mooring in Gosport, but with a prompt exit from the office on a Friday night in Birmingham 150 miles away, a packed car and a fairly heavy right foot I can still be on board very much in the daylight.  I reckon with a fair tide in the height of summer Cowes is a possibility before it gets properly dark...

So going from where I am now, (hillingdon) to MSC i pass loads of clubs either over or under the M25. But as I do the trip on a Friday night to stay at her or my parents, I dont think that applies. Seriously, I still sail at MSC as I prefer a sea venue rather than a shifty lake.

The new Musto World Champion has won the Pico nationals as well  Smile

It wasn't meant as a dig at the Pico , although re-reading it it may have looked like that. Embarrassed
It just struck me as a wild contrast.

I won the Byte Nationals back in the day!

Think there's well over a thousand. Including yacht clubs based in London (but that sail elsewhere), there's something like 70 within the bounds of the M25 alone.

Just how many sailing clubs are there in the UK? It seems amazing that so many of us can live so close to a patch of water where people sail.
