Just download the IE extension for chrome. It opens the page in a new tab formatted for IE which fixes the truncated link problem.

https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/hehijbfgiekmjfkf jpbkbammjbdenadd

Im using it at the moment and it works really well.

What browser are you using? Some (?) (Chrome for one)
truncate lines so that urls etc get cut by forced line
breaks.

The 49ers were sailing lower and as Jim says they're all about VMG. Obviously a 9er is going to mince a 30 year old cherub round the course. I just rememeber skipping over the waves while 9ers were all sleek and smooth.

One of my memories of Flat Stanley was a Weston Easter pursuit back in the 1980s. I was standing outside the clubhouse and at the top of a big long reach Guy and Alex picked up the perfect gust, and more than doubled their lead over the "fast" fleet behind. The guy standing next to me looked at his mate and said "that's it: the Cherub's won". It was as clear cut as that.

Stanley was probably the ultimate of the 70s era of deeper V wide stern hull shapes. Modern style hulls are far far better in more moderate conditions and upwind, but when you got the perfect reach, good grief the boat would shift. There's a lot of nonsense talked about top speed, and I hope no-one believes everything that's posted here. Also in race terms top speed is definitely a poor relation to VMG. The 49er most definitely has a VMG rig: its just too big for very high through the water speeds. Was the ultimate straight line top speed of Flat Stanley in her heyday and in perfect conditions higher than that of a 49er? I wouldn't bet against it. Could she have beaten the 49er to the leeward mark? Not a hope.
