So all in all not bad for a what...3 year old class. Any
way I'm intrigued by these 2 potential new boats, sod assy
single-handers I want an unstayed rig which is nicer than
the laser in slightly bigger boat than the Byte.
I might be sailing it, but it's still sh**e!

There are many boats that fit that catagory, the Laser rig being how it is. Lightning and OK spring to mind. But I assume you mean with a modern Byte style rig on it, which does cut down the options, doesn't it?

They are not all full time 8.1 sailors though, there is a bit of crossover between the standards and 8.1's, as the article states that some rigs were hired from Rooster. It's also possible that some of the sailors did both the full rig and 8.1 nationals, certainly in Jon and Steve's cases they did the Radial nationals this year.

PS congratulations Jon!

Having been one of the glorious 34 who partook of the 8.1 nationals last weekend I can say that most of the rigs were hired (there were probably 10 'owners' there with most of the rest wanting to try the fleet as well as the usual smattering of 'rock stars' from other classes.

All in all it was a good event, I thoroughly enjoyed it and was please to finish where I did given the quality of the fleet (behind just behind Steve in race 2 was a definite bonus, I still don;t know how he managed to sneak past me though).

Roll on next year, fingers crossed there will be a few more owner there....

The numbers are a litte confusing - have they really sold 300+ rigs?

Also have the changed the sail design?  most seem to have that grey mylar leech panel but a few don't (179 and 175) are they just older cuts?

I take it the "Project X" thing is what Steve was talking about on SA over a year ago?

Why will no one on this forum take Supernova seriously? It's cheap, quicker than a Laser and very user friendly. We have 7 at our club now. Perhaps it's disadvantages are, not very funky and to easy to sail. Maybe Hartleys should make Mk 2 version with a sexy colored sail and a bit more carbon?
