My wife arranged our wedding on the day of the annual prize giving...... of course they had to delay the prizegiving by a week because half the club members would be at our wedding oops!

What was the matter Nigel, did you not get an invite either? Good to see
someone finally got Splot down the isle. Lets hope his foot hygiene has
improved, and she can put up with all his power tools.

I think it's damned inconsiderate of England and UK athletics to organise their events at the weekend and of course she insists on going along.    I have to keep fetching my own trolley.  Stupid and thoughtless if you ask me.
the same, but different...

Blimey!  Until the OP went and apologised for his original post, I genuinely thought the whole thing was said in a tongue in cheek sarcastic way, perhaps with insufficient use of smileys to make it obvious!  But not so!!!

For goodness sake, it's the taking part that counts, not the winning, would classes seriously rather have less people (and top people at that) on the startline simply because they can't make the whole event?  And I would have thought that the logistics invovled in getting to a rather inconsequential event where two people prove they are better at going round in circles faster than all the others, are pretty minimal compared to the happiest day of your life?

I never really got that...you want to go sailing, and the better you are at it, the less time you spend doing it...

The Firefly is a very strong class with a huge amount of talent at the front of the fleet, there is nothing to say that Steve T wouldn't have gone out on Friday and broken a mast in the first race, or capsized, or anything else for that matter (it was over 25kts all day), so to say that Steve would've won it had he been there, really is unjustified too. He's an amazing sailor but so is Nigel Wakefield, and the guys who came 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc., and so there is no doubt that Nigel and Emily are infact very worthy winners, since they had to fight off very close competition from the rest of the top 10 in the final 2 races.

So the wedding was planned over the nationals, but it was Steve's choice to attend, and they knew (and most of the fleet knew) for a long time leading up to the nationals, that this was the situation.

Welldone Nigel and Emily.

PS - For the record, Spolton did get Duckhams at his wedding party the following evening.
