To be a bandit it must be good in all conditions and by only average sailors. The following boats qualify:- Flying Fifteen, Merlin, Phantom, Solo and Fireball.
You'll notice that none of the 'fast up to date classes' qualify.

29er in most conditions apart from drifting always does well

49ers always seem to do reasonably when at the tiger when we only had the kite up for 2mins each lap. Can not wait next year when we have our big rigs and the same handicap....

Apparently I heard that someone club raced a moth off of the same handicap as an ORMA60 tri or something and still won! (it must have been converted to PY)
Needs to sail more...

i think that was simon payne at hayling. He did one of the pursuit races there and had already taken the lead within about 15 mins of his start time. After the race they worked out that he would have won if he had sailed off the tri's handicap.

The conditions and course were perfect for a moth that day though

You can look at this a couple of ways, either these boats which have been around for years and have a track record of results are suddenly becoming faster (Phantom) or the fast upto date classes aren't always as fast as the manufacturers claim them to be.

But hey it's handicap racing, and there's nothing worse than crossing the line in a drifter and then watching the breeze fill in for the slower boats.

I'll take class racing over handicap any day of the week..

RS200 - can be sailing well beyond it's handicap, especially in a blow, close tie with 420 really as the 420 probably has it for raw pace, but the RS200 will do the 420 if the course suits asym over sym spinakers..... Merlin's are great anytime, just wish I had £12K+ so I could buy a decent one!
Feeling sorry for vegans since it became the latest fad to claim you are one

you dnt need 12k to buy a decent one. Mk4 winders start at £7500 on the used list.

This one again... So why (apart from Fireballs in Fireball conditions and Merlins because the top of the fleet turns out) do those rarely star at the Bloody Mary for instance?

I think a pursuit will give different results to a mass start.

What is a Rocket? You list it seperatly to the Merlin Rocket ...
