She showed this by getting a couple of similar Bristol rugby players to drink a litre of water after an exhausting training session and then measured their urine output after 1 hour. The difference was that one player's water had had some salt added to it. The guy who drank the salt free water peed out very much more than the guy who had the saline solution. Alice recomended that if you were getting into a hydration situation then you should be adding some salt to your liquid as that enabled the water to stay absorbed by the cells rather than just get flushed through without doing a huge amount. Obviously don't put in more salt than you need and indeed if it tastes salty then you've probably put in too much, all you need is probably no more than you would put on a bag of chips. Does this work... well yes, from my perspective, when ever i am going to do any exercise i will firstly start with a half litre of squash with a dash of table salt added, you will certainly notice an improvement on calf cramping too.

A bit of sugar helps with the energy levels as well. its just your own home made isotonic drink
