they were cheap, recently second hand prices have gone up. also this boat doesnt have a kite. a freind of mine sailed a laser 2 single handed a lot and tried a 600 earlier this year and found it very difficult. i wouldnt recomend it for someone starting in small boats.
i would also recomend this route. Edited by mike ellis |

Without wanting to be rude in any way you class yourself as a beginer
(at least to small boats) and a singlehanded assy boat with a
trap may be a bit of a jump for anyone new to dinghies (wonder if
graeme has an opinion on this?), with or without your big boat
experiance...
If you are prepared to comprimise a bit and drop one of your parameters your options are.... Singlehanded Assy RS Vareo - probibly a pretty good bet. You say 'mainly singlehanded' and theres room for an extra person here if you wanted. mxRay - very quirky and probibly not too suitable here but a lot of fun. Singlehanded Trapeze RS600 - Great fun but pretty unstable and again probibly too much swimming involved to start with. Contender - Would still be a challenge but an acheivable one. I know someone who was in a similar place and managed fine. If you consider doublehanded (some of which can be singlehanded pretty hapily) boats then your options are vast... Theres also the sensible option of getting something like a laser for a season or two to get used to small boats then trading up for something with a little more grunt but thats down to how confident you are in your abilities.. The 600 is a cheap boat but quite hard to sail right. The musto is the other alternative i personally prefer them to the 700.
You will have to try them for yourself though! Alex |

Hi I am new to the forum and this year want to start sailing dinghys. I have experience in sailing larger yachts and now want to move onto something more fun. I weigh 10 Stone and would like peoples thoughts on what asymettric dinghy would be most suitable for a beginner. Many Thanks |
