Weight range - its wide, majority between 70 and 90kg but a significant proportion above and below do very well. It's a flat low rocker design and carries a wide range well.
6-Pack Runs first three Sunday's in December and the last three in Janaury with a gap in the middle for holidays etc. 2 races per day starting from 11.00. Want a go? Contact the association www.blaze-sailing.org.uk What do you normally sail singlehander wise ? And where ? We might be able to organise a local try ..... Blaze 720 |

Maybe not for you then - it would be boring if all got the same kicks ! The weight looks OK but each to their own and I'm surprised if you sailed one in a half decent wind and felt the same. Perhaps you'd find something like a Phantom more to your taste if you like a slightly more traditional 'feel'. Most newbie's can sail the Blaze straight away but find the necessary know how that make it fly a bit alien at first. Upwind is quickly learnt but offwind takes time and most are simply stuffed by the regulars at first (if you've ever raced boards it seems to help somehow) and the technique takes time. Blaze 720 |

Thanks for the info 720 and thanks for offer of a go jeffers. I have pretty much made my mind up to buy a Blaze after reading the Blaze v RS300 thread, the centreboard appeals as there is a lot of shallow water in the Exe and I like to sail on my own at times so don't want anything too liable to fall over, also I'm not the best sailer so there is more chance of getting to grips with the Blaze than the 600, 300 or the vareo which were the others on my short list. Just got to sell the current boat now. H

Well that comes alongside the trapeze, spinnaker and hydrofoils at the next AGM ! We don't run a sailing equivalent of the Soviet Union and individual owners can try whatever they like and we all watch with interest ..... but the AGM and design rights holders always have the final say. In the meantime Xpletive you are welcome to try a regular one - just ask.

And a spinnaker as well ! But private experiments do not constitute official change or even proposal. The Blaze class AGM is the body that promotes any change if needed. As with many other classes any proposal formally passed is then put to the design rights holders. There has never been a formal proposal from any individual or via AGM for either .....
The Blaze forum does not cover official AGM / committee issues and decisions quite intentionally. (you need to be fully paid up to receive minutes etc) However the general Blaze forum is open to all persons and any ideas and encourages all to join in - even non paid-up Blaze owners or non Blaze sailing persons. In summary - the class is committed to KISS though but does not censure experiment by individuals and ideas on the forum or even on the water. Blaze 720 |
