Am i missing something? - If you like the 3k is the 4k not just the next step up in terms of speed, crew weight etc? Can't say i know much abouteither of them but was under the impression that a 4k is jsut a big 3k.

Won't get into the Asay vs Sym thing here as it has been talked to death, i suspect if you do a search on these forums you'd find the arguments for and against rather quickly.

Have you tried moving the bridle to the stern (aft-bridle) as is now premitted in the class rules. See http://www.3000class.org.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=437

Removing the mainsheet jammer and moving the ratchet block to the boom, V3000 style, gives you acres of space. Add the now optional Gnav kit and even the crew has plenty of room! (But when it goes really light, put the crew on the foredeck)

We still get the daggerboard jammed from shingle and if you'd been on
our beach today and watched a 4000 snap the bottom off its daggerboard
as it ploughed in. Its the swivel centreboard and Assymspinnaker
combination I'm searching.
I have no desire to be old school and have to buy those damn yellow
boots. Nor do I intend to dress like a dinghy waller. I generally wear my
kitesurfing kit complete with helmet, & light impact vest, since I hit my
head more regularly with this sailing lark than ever i did wind or
kitesurfing.

Musto no was 6 or 7 from memory

Thanks for the 3000 rigging intel.

Switching from a mainsheet jammer to off-the-boom (with the ratchet block on the boom) has reduced my head-banging from 'regular' to 'never'. It seems I kept looking at the jammer to ensure it wasn't re-cleating mid-tack; taking the sheet from the boom keeps you aware of where the boom is!

Grumpf, what's this about "No dinghy sailor ever mastered
windsurfing, so it must be a cinch to switch the other way."

Ever heard of Robby Naish? Started in the Hobie "Mono Cat"; half-way between a cat and a dinghy.

Ever heard of Jessica Crisp? Two-time world Pro champ? Started on Sabot dinghies....

Ever heard of Olympic class world champ and Olympic medallist Lars Kleppich? Sabot dinghy champ before he went windsurfing.

There's a chap called Phil McGain you may have heard of as a world pro racing champ.....ex Sabot and Laser sailor.

What about Babs and Bruce Kendall and their 2 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze? Aaron McIntosh? All P-class kiddies I'm pretty sure.

I think Anders Bringdal sailed Optis.

Stop this foolishness before you're sentenced to sailing with Basher on a Fanatic with booties and a Tushingam Techno OD rig!

If you go from longboards to Contenders we'll expect you to go like Arthur Brett and win two Contender worlds.

It just shows what happens when you let kiters into a dinghy forum!

I've found shingle even worse with pivoting centreboards... I think if I die and go to hell one of my punishments would be to sail a lightweight racing dinghy from a shingle beach. Never again! I think if I had to sail off shingle I'd stick to boards without daggerboards!

Sounds like a Hobie 16 with the kite kit would be the answer - no boards at all to get into trouble with the stones, and nice and easy to sail - sailing well doesn't sound like something that is going to trouble you. And if you get a cat, dinghy sailors won't have to be associated with you.

Grumpf mate (yes tis I from the boards site as well! ) there are tons loads of boats out there, unless your guarenteed a crew id go for another singlehanded boat as I have an International 14 which I dnt get to sail often enough due to lack of decent crew (and having the knapp for wavesailing just down the road)!!

Prehaps a contender?? I think though I dont know that it has a pivoting centreboard???????

Any one in need of quality carbon fibre work (tillers etc) at decent prices!

It certain ly does have a pivoting centreboard. Plenty of boats up for sail on http://www.sailcontender.org.uk/ .

However the class is more than 15 years old so you might consider it yellow welly territory.
