You can’t prevent adults entering whilst still holding the race.

that's an interesting idea - maybe a dumb question, but do you attached it your ankle and if so, how do you prevent the mainsheet getting all twiddled up in it?

I have a carabina on my harness and hook the fall of the mainsheet through it when sailing the Spice solo, it's mainly to prevent me dropping the sheet when trapezing but would also tether me to the boat in a capsize. I may do similar in the Blaze when sailing unaccompanied in future.
The tail of the mainsheet is good as the boat will capsize rather than sail on for a distance if you fall out.

Ankle, you aren't throwing yourself about like you would in a race.
A2Z, talking about members of club not strangers, you wouldn't know if strangers were competent. |

If you can use your phone in an emergency, if you dial 112 instead of 999, you go straight to emergency services not through your provider and they automatically have your coordinates.

On the sea it's much better to have a Marine VHF and the knowledge to use it correctly. Mobiles often don't have a reliable signal in many places and they can only track your position to the nearest phone mast (which certainly won't be 2 miles out into the Irish sea). The local coastguard monitor Ch16 24/7 and can find you using RDF triangulation if you can't give them an accurate position.

Correct, but I also take a radio, never yet not had a full signal on mobile, probably wouldn't work if you were against the foot of cliffs.
