Not really directed at anyone... I just wanted to say it and the opporchancity presented itself...

Although I've been swinging back round on the blue decks front recently, it does shout 'early fibreglass GP' a bit but that's mostly psychological...
The bland uniformity of plastic GPs and Lasers in virtually indistinguishable shades of white, off white and grey is getting really quite depressing.

Heh heh something like that.

Although not on a level of the cynical use of generations old brand identities founded on genuine breakthrough design to appeal to gullible customers to buy products without any of the innovations that made the original versions iconic.

That rant being largely directed at the new beetle. The other 2 are apparently good cars in their own right, but still fairly derivative, and in no ways landmarks like the originals.

Apologies for going off topic and probably offending people.

Suddenly the RS100 looks like a much nicer boat!   When the first pictures of the D-One came out I "wanted one" but now the 100 look much sleeker, that fat bloated bow on the D-One would be hell in solent chop!  The tall wings look really silly too!

I never thought I would say this!

I'm a big fan of the small outfits sticking it to the big mass production companies, so in theory I'm behind the D1 all the way,
and yah-boo to the RS100.

But in reality, the RS100 looks better, will be cheaper and will have the might of the LDC marketing machine behind it. So it's
going to stuff the market for the D1. In fact, even if the RS100 turns out to be a total turkey, the mere fact of it's
forthcoming release will stuff the market for the D1 and everything similar for some time to come. Which is a shame, because
(all those things aside) the D1 may be the better boat.

That is a very UK view of things; Devoti is very well known in Europe ...

The better boat might have been the Frankenblaze if they'd paid any heed to
a marketing expert telling them what was needed and they'd have been in
play already...

And LDC aren't ?

But yes, fair comment. I'm a UK sailor giving my opinion on how likely the D1 is to do well here. It might be a
real hit in Estonia for all I know.

My point really is that the best boat is not necessarily the one that will win the battle. Just ask Sony about Betamax.

the mast is quite stiff so the problem of the mast bending forwards does not happen often. usually if you hit a wave but with the light boat its up to speed again quickly. felt fine downwind to me. most people sail with the boom to far out on a Musto too, if you go fast the load comes off the rig.

Upwind there is something nice with the simplicity of an unstayed mast on a hiking boat. upwind it felt a lot like a finn to me, it sails very well through chop. less harsh than a stayed rig will feel in chop.
