I have no idea why they abandoned it - But I got a reasonable start on that one!
Was that you that we were talking too on the Saturday night by the results? Thought it might have been, but I wasn't sure. 'Fraid I wont be doing the Nats this year, I'm doing the Vareo's instead ( Hopefully! ) |

I was at Hill Head Laser Open too, really enjoyed it after thinking it was gonna be a really boring drifter. Made all that much better by the standard at the front of the fleet in the radials. I was never that far away from the leaders so very happy with my 4th place.

It absolutely P**SED it down yesterday. The forecast said 5mph gusting 17mph and it was spot on. The afternoon was not helped by the mainsail not releasing from the hook at the top of the mast so we had to relaunch to capsize her. It's a heavy boat and a steep slipway. Knackered. Then the RO gave me a DNF. Protest!

Great racing on the Medway again this weekend. It was Wilsonians "South Kent Race". Down the river to the mouth at Garison Point and back again - about 3 hours in a 4000 and about 4 in a Wayfarer. Not a lot of wind but enough to get the 4000 powered up. We had a reasonable start and the boat goes well to windward so although challenged by the Canoe, MPS, 5000 and Osprey we managed to hold onto the lead for about an hour and then the 800 got past. An hour later and we were around the windward mark and still nobody else got past but they were close. The Musto and the 5000 came past and we left the Osprey for dead and thus finished behind 3 fast boats and came out 3rd. However the overal results included the slower fleets which had started earlier so in the end we were 6th with a 3000 and a couple of Wayfarers pushing us down the list. Total boats competing was 30 odd. Good competitive fun but we could have done with a few more mph out of the wind as there were times when the crew wasn't wiring downwind. However I understand most of the rest of the east coast had no wind at all. |

Both Saturday and Sunday were Sunblock City and a half decent sea breeze had built for Sunday racing. (enough for 1 trapeze out of 2). RO set course 7 which seems to change year by year. I had taped last year's courses to my boat (mistake) while Swannie was sailing the correct course. As we both rounded the top mark, leading the fleet, me rounding to Starboard and him to Port we both shouted, "You're sailing the wrong course!" at each other before heading off to the next (different) marks. Most boats followed me ( I am the Sailing Sec and should know the courses). Eventually Swannie buckled as well so we all sailed the wrong course and got DNF'd to a man! On the plus side, I managed to squeeze into my shorty, thus winning a bet with my wife. |
