B14. We've done plenty of swimming of late, would be nice to get the moves practised under more contrrolled conditions! (sadly missed the big class swimming expedition to Rutland) |

Not sure if this applies to B14 aswell, but taking the wheels of the trolley, tieing the boat down and doing some shore drill is really helpful for practising the moves (use halyard for boom). Although it is good to have some practical light wind days |

Chris, why take the wheels off? if you do shore based drills leave the wheels on and level the boat by raising the bow

This has been the story of my year in the contender. I've gone from doing so much swimming back in spring I could've made the UK team, to not doing anything like as much now. It's a sort of feel the fear and do it anyway mentality, but it sure works. The hardest part is constantly humiliating oneself in front of the club numpties who are happily shuffling about in their supernovas et al and who clearly have no idea how tricky it can be not to just have to steer smoothly through the tack, but get in and out on the wire at the same time. They beat me on handicap too, but hey, I know who's having more fun! ![]() |

Spreads the load of the boat from just being on the wheels to being on the whole A-frame of the trailer |

You want to be *very* careful about that. The tyre edges can give solid enough loads to case problems. Probably all right with something solid like a foam sandwich Cherub, but if you go dancing around something more fragile like a wooden FD, and the tyre edge gets to be next to a frame edge then you could do some serious damage because of peak loads due to the hard spots. A "bath" of foam chips as used for packging with the whole boat in would be perfect! Edited by JimC |

As said, spreads the weight, and if you try trapezing or standing on racks with wheels on the whole boat pivots on the wheel, tipping over more easily. I know from experience
Yea definitely, I can't stand people who stand there laughing at people capsizing when they have made a big jump in boats, at least they have the guts to do it.. Get there a lot quicker than stepping up one rung at a time. Besides its good to be good at capsize drill. It is quite humilating specially when you have to get towed in because the wind picks up big style, but like you say couple months later your having much more fun than they are
Its harder to do than just the wheels and its good to have it on the trolley, tied onto the trolley (big rope, rap around the shrouds, loop around oen side of a frame twice (tight) under boat, round other side of frame twice, tie off on shrouds (tight)), with whole a frame on ground, as then it has nothing to pivot on. Good idea to stick some typres under the aft though If anyone wants to give it a try but is not sure what I mean say and I will try and take some pictures next time I am down.
