They can be very intimidating full stop. Usually not very welcoming or inclusive. People always seem to "look" at you in a strange manner rather than welcoming you.

you should try putting your clothes on before walking into the clubhouse.

I think joining any new group or club requires a little bit of bravery but if you can get past the first few awkward moments  you will generally find that most people are a pretty welcoming.

If you are pleasant and friendly people will be the same back to you ...

We are super welcoming while we asses social standing and monetary wealth. Then we have 2 doors. One to the tea and the other into the deepest part of the lake.

Seriously we are very friendly and welcoming.

I tried to go sailing at my other club today but as I went past the coxswain he told me not to go afloat as the hooter warning the closing of the water was about to sound.  The hooter duly sounded after ten minutes, and the water closed half an hour after that.  All I wanted was enough water time to hoist, gybe and lower the kite to check everything was doing what it should.  Effectively, at half past two, I was told to go home.
the same, but different...

So then all you posh b**locks, I'm sitting in Sketch in Mayfair and wondering about some etiquette...

1) is it a scone (gone) or scone (own)?

2) jam or cream first?

Cheers all

Surely a stiff ignoring was appropriate....you had 40 minutes....tough for him even if it meant knocking off a little later.

Scone (gone) for me.

As for the cream thing, I married a cornish woman, and down in the land of scones (even though she pronounces it wrong) it is always clotted cream on top of jam. If you must put something under the jam, make it butter.
