Hmmm, things you can do with a laser hull...I don't think the hull shape itself is actually that bad. I think with current technology you could probably do something rather interesting with that shape. Such as beef up the mast step somewhat, stick a Blaze rig and a trapeze on it, slap a decent sized rudder on it (such as a contender rudder) and you'd have something quite interesting. Anyone game? |

Not all chemicals are bad. Without chemicals such as hydrogen and
oxygen, for example, there would be no way to make water, a vital ingredient in beer. |

Bearing in mind that the Laser looks suspiciously like a rip off of the Contender I suggest what you would have would be a baby contender

I had a go in a contender a while back and was a bit disappointed to be honest - it felt a bit heavy. This is where the cunning plan of using a lightweight hull comes in. Plus if this unholy creation doesn't nose dive, nothing will!

Now here is a damn good boat for for all sorts of wind strengths. Fast in the medium brezes and not so powerfull you can't go out in a 6. This was taken during the recent Medway Regatta. You should join us next year.

True, but only a touch more wind and they do plane to windward and then they are a very fast boat. I love that feeling when you come up behind a 400 or an Osprey, sail through their lee and tack and cross ahead. What other boat do you know that can do that and still put in a reasonable performance in force 2 or force 6? Well of course Ospreys and 400s do perform well over a wide wind range (which is why I chose them as examples) but they just don't have that amazing apparent wind sailing. So we often get beaten by them but we always have a smile on our faces wherever we come. |
