Weather forecast is Force 3 easterly, flat water, cold but sunny. I haven't sailed for more than a month because so many Sundays were blown off or it wasn't my turn to sail. Sunday looks ideal for December.............................................

I wanted to sail on Monday because it is my birthday. Bootlegger has been deposited at Datchet and now I discover they don't open on Mondays!

Why is light winds good in December? I like December because it is windy, and when it is you don't get cold because your working hard as long as you don't take a swim and if you do you warm up quickly :) |

If you were as abysmal as I am, you'd wish for a light breeze at the most. |

hmm, Force 2-3 is just what me and my helm are needing, something controlable so I can practise re-packing the kite with the boat actually upright...

While this is true, swimming in Menorca in summer is far preferable to swimming in Suffolk in winter! Weather over the last couple of months has definitely dented our learning curve with the L4k........at the moment this coming weekend looks like offering a bit more than just survival practice. |

I think you have to put a few caveats on that... For instance at this time of year with my advanced age and dubious fitness I find I have to put a limit of "come in after the second swim". That means I'm not, for instance, going to devote a lot of time to crash tacking practice in the Canoe, which is probably the highest swim risk exercise, but there's still plenty of scope for improving the smoothness and quality of execution of the less extreme activities. Mind you I have to finish putting the damn boat back together first. I looks as if I'll be transitioning from having last sailed in August straight to January or February. Ouch. Edited by JimC |
