Maybe we are in need of a material which will rotomould but not be made from oil? Bio-roto, anyone?

I was going to suggest Cellophane, which is 100% recycleable but very toxic to make.
Wood mash with a binding agent.

I was chatting to the guys who make the H2 recently and he mentioned that he was considering using newspaper as the first layer with a clear coat. The result would be a boat that looked like a news paper - was tempted to get the foredeck of my next H2 made in this way just for the fun of it. His point though was that you can use all sorts of materials in the build if you want!!

Replying to an earlier post about rotomoulding with a bio-plastic, it's not an unrealistic idea.  PLA (poly-lactic acid), for example, can be rotomoulded.  It may be worth keeping in mind though that bio-plastics are also ultimately bio-degradable, so the boat would need to be protected from the elements, typically by painting.
