Are you using the same sails?  He may have paid for the Pro set.

Andy101, according to my viewer Sparks 23 is sailing at 117 degrees to the wind, which would certainly account for the speed difference.

I have noticed that after wind changes etc. it can take a long time for the information on other boats to become accurate. I figured this out when I saw that the wind direction in their grid is different from the wind direction given clicking on their boat.

Bootscooter, looks like you and the other forum leaders (Simon G, Tad, TurtleRecall) are in a completely different weather system now, so I reckon no way any of us in the middle group will catch up. You are all about a 1000 miles ahead and all doing 20 knots plus! I reckon it will be the South Atlantic before there any real opportunities to catch up.

That has been a painful slog south.  Hopefully through it now and can start picking up some of the 20k places I have lost over the last few days.  Well done rb, you called it right!

we are in totally different weather systems but with all the ice gates there is always chance that we can fall of a front etc going up to validate them and loose a good few miles.

Just look at the prediction for the next ice gate in 60 - 72 hrs and there is a good chance you will be able to close up a fair chuck of the miles.

then again it can work the other way!  Smile

Yes it is looking good for those of us already by the first ice gate, it seems a relatively straightforward route between ice gates now and hopefully not too many passing lanes seeing as the good ship SimonG is flying at the moment!
