You get high load or wire blocks for the business end, then you can downsize once you're into the cascade.

while i'm out of the loop  these days this is what  people always used to do

wire 2 or 3 :1  that the shroud clips to then lead to a cascade / 6:1 tackle or  muscle box.

that sounds like the system we had on our 505 back in the day.... fully adustable.
When it comes to rigging solo though it is nice to have a gate/hole to take the mast whilst you faff with shrouds etc....
but that is why you designed a two man boat so the crew can hold while you gently fit the spring clips etc Big smile
Cheers you

Pictures? Link? Don't see them on the wall of my local dinghy store..

A high load block on the end of the shrouds would make it easy to thread a lead through just to get the wire in place so I can then attach the forestay.

Yes well, we all know the top didn't go the way I'd initially designed, got talked out of it probably for build expedience..
Having said that the way it's laid out with its massive kicker it would need a tiny crew to get through that bit now..

GRF, I know you wouldn't want to, but have you had a look at the photos on the Merlin web site. You might find one or two of the shrouds and lowers on the newer boats

Nowadays we tend to use 12 strand dyneema/spectra or vectran for the bit that used to be wire.

Hopefully those make sense. A lot of boats use through deck blocks for the shrouds but based on the picture you showed us it doesn't look like an option. You can increase the purchase by adding another block to the cascade.

It's bad enough a couple of our lads have gone totally retarded and are threatening a Merlin, I can't be seen to be encouraging such foolishness, only in England and only wearing yellow rubber, please don't use such offensive suggestions to me again.. Wink
