They have the standard one for the Laser 3000 at 1032!!!! The RYA PY currently includes V3000
Class recommended one puts it into the correct fleet.

Yes if you are slower than PY1020 you go in the slow handicap on the second course. It is not a windward/leeward but a trapezoidal course but you will get good racing along with RS200, Laser 2000, Laser Vago, 405, Laser Stratos plus many more.
Cheers

Sorry but as you would expect I agree with Russ. I cant see what the problem with us racing in that start is. As said just call it the w/l start rather than the asy start. I haven't done that much travelling with sailing for a long time and I must say I am a little gutted that we arent going to do it over something so trivial as this.
Maybe if I was fortunate enough to be small enough to sail an asy I wouldnt have this problem but I am not so I guess we just have to deal with it.
The start of my 2011 campagn to do as much travelling as possible has gone straight down the crapper before it has began over something so simple.

I'll be going a fair bit faster than you all that day, what with spending several hours on a 125mph train southbound. Do have fun (once the arguments calm down)

Bob the other events don't offer W/L racing, but that's fine as we can compete with other boats that struggle on that type of course. The problem we have with the GGP is that every other class we race against will suit Trapezoidal style courses i.e. Fireballs, Merlins etc. At this like the Tiger, the 9ers, 800's and alike struggle as much as we do so it seems a bit fairer, not to mention the large round the cans pursuit which means we usually get a fairly decent kite leg (not that i have done this in a 5oh yet as we are still in our first year) The Bloody Mary is the same, in that you sail round the cans, but for me the bloody Mary is so prestigious i would do it in a bathtub!
Simon to be honest i was guessing that the Global warm up was running again, if its not then it doesn't matter to me either way. Al, i am not arguing i am just debating the rigidity of the decision. I feel its not right and i cant understand why you would exclude a boat from the W/L when that's what it is set up for. Christ they even let cats sail at the event! I must also point out this is only my opinion and nothing to do with any class i am a member of!

This is the problem when classes overdevelop themselves. A once great all round boat is now another one-trick-pony.
Letting them sail in the ww/lw fleet would seem sensible, but then you'll get some of the owners of more marginal boats wanting to do the same. I don't know what the answer is short of going back to a smaller kite. you'd probably only use the zeppelin at class events so it may be a worthwhile investment.

Going back to a smaller kite is not as easy as untying the halyard and sheets and putting a smaller version on i am afraid. I'm not sure its about classes that have developed either, classes like the 49er, 800 etc struggle to hold their kites on these legs, but it doesn't matter to them as they have a w/l race! The answer is to offer the fleet to fast Asymmetric s or fast symmetric boat with a PY of 910 or faster. Anyway this thread shouldn't develop into a kite size thread, so i will stop posting now |

Yes but the 49er, 800 et al are assymetric boats designed for this type of racing in the first place. It again comes down to that if you don't want to do windward/leeward racing, or want to do events that are round the cans or trapezeoid don't buy a boat that can only do ww/lw racing competetively.
The reverse also applies in that the 400 is quite capable of competing on a trap course but is in the fast assymetric fleet. it could be argued it's better suited to the medium.
