Even hiking in the Blaze will not kill your knees. I always found that after a weekend in the Blaze in heavy winds my legs were perfectly fine the next day. The hiking position really is comfy. As for the rack issues you could walys have it so you cann pull the pins and fold the racks away before you come on shore. With a bit of fiddling the racks slide in and out pretty easily on the Blaze.

I am sure if you speak to Blaze 720 he can put you in touch with the guy who added the kite to his and he can give you all the details of what he did.

Grumpf, come up to Grafham and try my contender, or I will come down there and do some much needed sea sailing and you can try it there - just done' break it; I've just forked out for my ferry tickets to Denmark.  Your weight will be fine - it's so much more about technique than strength and besides, your stunted stature will make it easy for you to get under the boom.

Althernatively there's an open next weekend at Eastbourne.  Come along there, meet all the other old farts - many of them are around your age, so you'd fit in well - and have a look at the boats.

that vid is useless and not a class promo.  This is a class promo!

Join now and you could be spending Christmas at the Worlds in Brisbane!  Plus we have a proper Europeans next year in La Rochelle where we'll probably get a 100+ turnout.

Doh you'd have more joy standing an Irishman in a dustbin and telling
him to pee in the corner I'm still as undecided as ever.

I watched that video right through wing wang and saw lots of folk
chucking themselves in, on Lake Garda, why would they do that?

And I saw lots of folk struggling to get under the boom, one just seemed
to get stuck halfway and with the rigs raked right back like that... I know
you think I'm so short I could just walk under it...

So what do you suggest James, I use a pair of snippers, scissors or shears
to cut down the main on an RS700 and even back when I first saw that
RS700 and nearly bought it having fallen p1ssed off the Guiness stand at
the LBS when it first appeared, I could see that pump thing would be a
right no go (does it actually function?), still I could always use it to bribe
Dan to fill in if Steve's not
around I suppose, so one way of getting a crew.

And wing wang, we'd love to have you down at Hythe, there are now three
other Contender sailors who would benefit from your advice I'm sure and
I'd love to watch a 'girley' beating them up.

Would you be using a riding crop by any chance?

Thigh length boots even.

As a matter of interest all the sail measurements on a Contender sail are maximums so you could re-cut the main to give a decent boom height.

This is mentioned a lot on the Contender forum but I have never seen anyone do it which I think is a little odd as the boom hieght seems to be a big issue for those thinking of buying a Contender.

I guess they either try a Contender and put up with the boom height or buy something else

I do think some of the lighter sailors toy with cutting the main down, but they fear losing the downwind advantage.

As far as the low boom is concerned, I'm 5'11" and I'm fine so long as I remember to let the kicker off when I'm tacking.  That is a lesson learned the hard way.  I think it was a lot windier than it looked at Garda, hence the capsizes, but the boat is relatively easy to right, especially with a carbon rig.

I saw that, but...

It's totally the wrong way, if that's just off Concadora you have to ignore
that and go exactly the other way riding the knock into the cliffs.

Then its the first one in is the first one out.

Horribly predictable course is Garda, classic wind bend into the cliffs with
a venturi induced lift coming out, and it's the same in reverse the other
side, horrible place. Percentage sailing never seems to pay, you have to
commit and be damned if you don't do it early and fast enough.

But if you're lucky like they were in that video and its cloudy then a bit
more sailing normality comes into play. I watched it all the way through,
excellent variety of conditions, they were lucky, lots of contests in Garda
it's exactly the same day in and day out, unless they get up early and race
the North Wind, which doesn't happen that often, least it never did back
in my day.

You could always stick a trapeeze on a  Solo.

It's got a  nice fully battened main.

... the association would be delighted !

That was Riva so he's headed for the cliffs.  The variety of conditions was as much to do with them trying to sail us outside the Ora window as the natural conditions.

I'd bought a cheap Contender whilst the 700 was on order and got talked into attending the Worlds for the first time along with 146 others.  I arrived having only sailed the boat in a F3 so it was interesting but a lot of fun!!!  I think I was the only person to measure a sail which still had a 1975 Plymouth worlds stamp on it so every boat I passed was a therefore a moral victory in my eyes.

I had a guy spend 10 minutes videoing my banana's which I'd taped to the lowers. I couldn't be bothered to watch the video all the way through again.  Did the banana's make this cut?

Cheers

Ian
